New Long Haul Routes: « Six for ’26 »
American Airlines is expanding its global schedule for summer 2026 with six new and enhanced long-haul routes linking the United States with key destinations in Europe and South America. Among the highlights are brand-new services to Prague, Czech Republic, and Budapest, Hungary, with the latter becoming the only nonstop route connecting the US and the Hungarian capital. These additions further strengthen American’s transatlantic footprint and open new nonstop options for customers traveling to Central Europe.
Several of the new routes will launch on May 21, 2026, including seasonal service from Dallas Fort Worth to Athens, Greece, and Zurich, Switzerland, as well as new summer flights from Philadelphia to both Prague and Budapest. Miami will gain year-round service to Milan beginning March 29, 2026, expanding American’s presence in northern Italy. In South America, the airline will extend its Dallas-Fort Worth–Buenos Aires service deeper into the summer season, operating from May 21 through August 3, 2026, to meet peak travel demand. Most routes will be operated with Boeing 787-8 aircraft, with select flights using the Boeing 777-200.

The airline will operate limited-time nonstop flights between Dallas Fort Worth and Zurich, while also expanding service from both Dallas Fort Worth and Miami to Buenos Aires. From May 21 through August 4, 2026, American will offer new limited-time nonstop service between DFW and Zurich during the summer season. Flights to Argentina will also see a significant increase, with four weekly departures from DFW to Buenos Aires and up to three daily flights from Miami. Travelers planning a summer trip to Asia will find more ways to upgrade their experience as American Airlines expands its premium offerings on flights to Tokyo in 2026. Compared with summer 2025, the airline will boost premium seating capacity to Tokyo Haneda by more than 45% from both Dallas Fort Worth and Los Angeles, reflecting continued demand for high-end long-haul travel.
The expanded schedule includes daily Boeing 777-300 service from Dallas Fort Worth to Haneda and twice-daily Boeing 777-200 flights from Los Angeles, both launching March 29, 2026. These aircraft feature American’s latest premium cabins, giving customers greater access to lie-flat seating and enhanced onboard amenities on transpacific routes.
American is upgrading its Business Class experience on widebody flights to East Asia and other long-haul markets. These enhancements include providing pajamas and mattress pads to improve passenger comfort on overnight flights. After adding service to more than 25 destinations and increasing frequencies in multiple markets this year, Chicago has become one of the fastest-growing hubs in American’s network. The airline is focused on measured, sustainable growth that will ultimately expand service from ORD to more than 180 destinations while adding capacity in high-demand markets.
Growth at the hub will continue into 2026 with a mix of new markets, extended seasonal flying, and expanded summer schedules. Several routes previously limited to the winter season will operate through the summer months, while additional leisure destinations will see more consistent daily service during peak travel periods. These changes are designed to give customers more nonstop options year-round and greater flexibility when planning seasonal travel.
American is also significantly increasing overall flying from Chicago, with spring departures rising by more than 30% compared with 2025 and peak schedules reaching more than 480 daily flights ahead of spring break. All spring destinations from ORD will return next year, making American the only hub carrier at the airport to fully restore its seasonal network. Every flight from Chicago will continue to be operated with dual-class aircraft, and premium offerings such as Flagship Suite seating on select long-haul routes remain a key part of the customer experience.
