New Zealand is frequently regarded as one of the most isolated countries in the world. It shares no land borders, and is separated by vast stretches of ocean from the likes of Australia, Asia, and North and South America. This sees it unsurprisingly home to some of the longest nonstop flights in the world.
The country is served by six international airports, with the busiest being
Auckland Airport, serving the majority of all international flights from both Air New Zealand and other foreign carriers. This article, using from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, briefly digs into the ten longest nonstop flights scheduled in 2026.
Nonstop To New York
The longest nonstop route from New Zealand is that shared by both Air New Zealand and Qantas, connecting Auckland Airport (AKL) to
New York JFK Airport. This link is served by both airlines using their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Air New Zealand was the first to debut this route on September 17, 2022, and became the airline’s flagship route after dropping its one-stop service to London (via Los Angeles).
Neighbouring airline Qantas also operates this route, operating Sydney-Auckland-New York, and is eligible to pick up passengers solely on the AKL-JFK-AKL service thanks to fifth-freedom privileges. The JFK-AKL route has a max block time of 18 hours and ten minutes, covering approximately 8,820 miles (14,200 km).
